Glue and clear glass effect on stained veneer
« on: May 17, 2011, 10:36:00 PM »
Hello,

Often when you stain wood it looks completely different just stained vs stained and sealed.

I want to stain some veneers to be under clear glass.

Will the glue and glass have about the same effect on the final color as going over the stain with poly for instance?

Also, do you HAVE to use non-oil based stains on the veneers? I thought an oil based stain might cause a bad glue bond.

Thanks a bunch!

You are right on the oil based stains and glue-use only water or alcohol based stains or dyes. The glue and glass will change the look of the veneers similar to what you get when finish is put on- usually comes out a bit darker.

If you use water base dye, make sure to let it dry really well or it can/will create dry spots under the glass when the water vaporizes.
I didnt miss, thats right where I was aiming
