Can this be fixed?
« on: May 19, 2011, 01:21:00 PM »
I have a takedown bow, that I have had for a few years but do not shoot on a real regular basis. Just recently when I was getting ready to do some shooting, I found this.

At first I thought it was just in the finish. I sanded down the finish and it seems to be a very shallow crack in the glass. I can not see any crack on the edge of the limbs that goes into the wood lams. It does not seem to open up when the bow is strung, or drawn partially. Since I have noticed it I have not fully drawn the bow.

Is this repairable? If so, any guidance on the repair would be greatly appreciated.

I assume this is the back?  If so, I would say no.

Correct, this is the back of the bow at the overlay for the "bolt end" of the limb. The end of the darker wood overlay lines up with the end of the riser.

The crack is in the wood overlay, not in the glass. I would have the bowyer replace the overlay, or you could remove the finish and saturate the crack with thin superglue.
I didnt miss, thats right where I was aiming

It does appear that the crack is in the overlay instead of the glass.  If so, it really can't be fixed, but it'll shoot fine, just look cracked.
