New Forward Scout
About six weeks ago, I started a project to build two bows and keep a diary of the build to add to my web site. I normally take a week for a build, but this one dragged on due to a combination of problems with the bow, which I had actually given up on at one point, and illness that kept me out of the shop. However, in fits and starts, the bow got done and came out quite reasonably well. It was a real challenge for me, being built for a friend who needed a long bow… for real. He's a bit tall.
Anyway, he wanted one of my Forward Scouts. Here's what he ended up with:
Forward riser straight longbow
Quilted maple outers, boo core, bubinga riser
RW 68" 35@28
Full draw... the bow was repeatedly tested by pulley to 34"
David, is a recurve shooter and i was concerned about setting this bow up so it would be comfortable for him to shoot, particularly since I couldn't test it at full draw! He started out shooting well left, but adjusted his grip and stance and in a few flights was right on. This was his last four shots!
Here you can see why I was a bit concerned about building "outside of my normal parameters"! A happy new bow recipient and a very relieved bowyer!
