black locust, sinew back, shortening bow?
« on: August 04, 2011, 10:35:00 PM »
hey all
wondering about this locust ive been working with.
i wont bore you with the embarassing details but i ended up with this bow way underweight.

i was thinking about cutting down the ends significantly to increase the weight a bit

i put a nice sinew back on the bow so, will cutting the ends mess up the backing? all i ve ever heard is to have the sinew wrapping around the tip ends.

the bow now is about 58 ttt (maybe 57 ntn)
if cutting is safe with the sinew backing what would be the shortest within reason i could go?

unrelated but as long as i have your attention:
will the tillering gizmo work ok with recurve and reflex?

if i were you, first i would try sinew backing and if it is not enough i will try to shorten it. since the bow is already short enough to be a short bow. nearly turkish type bow size.
these are not the droids you are looking for.

How wide is your bow and what are you looking for in draw length? Is the handle rigid or working?

its 1 1/4 wide to 3/4 tips. totally flat on the belly, semi working handle

would like to hit 28" draw length could live with 27

If I was doing it I wouldnt cut more than 1" from each end. I would make the handle work compeletley as well.
