TakeDown Wedges
« on: August 23, 2011, 10:39:00 PM »
I am starting my transition into 3 piece takedowns.  While looking at all the takedowns on here, I notice a variety of styles of wedges.  Different thicknesses, some tapered with a flat and some totally tapered.  Is there a reason for different designs or is it another personal preference type a thing?

Thanks

BTW, Using Bingham's plans for pronounced takedown.

1.  "Different thicknesses"--
As long as it doesn't flex on the riser(between bolt and pin)it can be whatever thickness you like

2.  "some tapered with a flat and some totally tapered"--
The flat is easier to drill for mounting bolts as both surfaces of limb are parallel, the knob or bez fits a bit easier(I like the strait taper look tho)

The feathered end does the work of spreading stress, the other end is what you like or can live with...
