Blew up

My widebelt sander just did I'm thinkin.    

Started as a squeak and in a few min. became a horrid howl! Dust flew outta the motor , so I shut down and came in for lunch. Gotta go back out and find the prob in a bit.

This is gonnaa hurt I'm sure, but the worst thing is, orders will have to wait til I fix it.

Prayiin for ya and your machine Kenny.  My drum sander is the one keeps me up at night thinkin I have to baby it or else.

Well, found the drive cushioning rubber was ate up, so I turned it a little and put it all back together. Still no good, now looking at the bearings on ends of bottom drum also.

Good news is the motor seems to be good, not hot and bearings seem good.

If your bearings are not burnt out, try cleaning the drive belt pulley's with some solvent.

If the pulley's are glazed from the belt slipping, give them a quick going over with some 220 emery paper, so the pulley "grips" the belt better.

You will probably need a new belt, if the original has been burnt-the carbonized rubber will never hold the pulley properly, after this happens.

If the bearings are shot, you should be able to source replacement bearings from an industrial supply outlet.

The bearing numbers may still be evident on the bearing itself, if they haven't burnt really bad.

Should the bearings have not had seals (they should have) try to find a replacement with such a seal fitted to it.

One bearing(the one where the noise seemed to be)seems to feel dry, but there is no drive belt. It is a Nova joint? My bro has one on his mower between motor and hydrostat?

Anyway the rubber is chewed on it, so lookin at 2 bearings(local) and the rubber from Grizzly.

Good thing is the bearings have the machine stripped waaay down and the rubber thingy is about 20 minutes putting back together.

So I can buy the bearings here and have it pretty well back together when the rubber cushion thingy arrives. Bet I get 2 of those!  :D
