Bad glueup Help!
« on: September 17, 2011, 04:25:00 PM »
I made the mistake of trying to glu up a tri-lam bow in 95F heat.  Using TB III, some ares set up before I could get it all clamped. Well it did not come out as well as I would have liked lots of gaps in the lams.  So what can I do now.  We made all of this ourself out of our own wood so it was a lot of work to get this far and fail.  What will remove, disolve, release the TB3?

If you can get the glue to 150deg(F) it will release and you can disassemble the lams, clean them up and go for a new glue-up.
I have removed a hickory backing by heating it with a heat gun. I started at one tip, heated it until I could get a wood chisel under the hickory and work down the limb with the heat and chisel. I then when to the other tip and did the same until it came apart completely.

So TB III will release at 150?  I can do that easy enough.  Any ideas on how to get the glue off the lams after that?  Laquor thinner, asetone...?

I think I scraped and sanded it off. Call the 800 number on the TBIII bottle. That's how I found out about the 150 release temp. Those tech guys love to solve problems and already have lots of answers.
