I've watched those three videos a number of times. I learn a little bit every time. And I drool a little bit every time I see those sheafs of raw shafts in front of the shop.

Inksoup...great Vids..I really enjoyed them. Love the look on that Gentlemans face as he works. I'd love to have his skills ! He has inspired me to take my arrows to a higher level !

the tool for the wood-bamboo straightener is normal wood with a angular hole at one end. well the asians are using it frequently. and this guy is also using it (at middle of the video):

i wonder what is he putting on bamboo when watering it. is it ash? well looks like ash. and why? coloring or making it strong etc?

He's probably just explaining why he's doing some of the different things. Rest assured there is a good reason and just pay attention like a good little apprentice.

Joe- Looks like you just drill a hole (about 1/2" dia. or so) at an angle through a 1X2, then cut a 1" notch on one edge, in the middle of the length of the drilled hole.

Mayby a very fine volcanic ash as a sanding medium? Gives the shafts the shine towards the end?

Definately a master fletcher....

Mike, I think you're right about what he's putting on the shaft. Looks like a sanding medium of some kind. Pumice, volcanic ash... something like that.

I figured it was just fine sand, a more natural "sandpaper", along with the horsetail.

Watching these videos made me acquire a nice set of long scissors.  I wish I had those skills to cut feathers though, I can't buy those.
