Handle gouge help

I just started on my second bow, a hickory molly with walnut handle. last night I cut A small gouge in the back side of the handle with the saw accidentally. The handle does not bend so I was thinking about backing it or cutting the gouge out with a half moon shape and glueing in another piece of walnut so that i have walnut on the belly side and back side of the handle    

obvious scaling issues but this was my idea...I will try to put up a pic tonight but I was just wanting some ideas...

Also what is the best way to cut out the half moon shape with out a bandsaw or jigsaw?

I would cut your "half moons" with files if you don't have a bandsaw or a jigsaw, that's how I did my first few board bows. Just draw all 4 sides your cuts and bring it to that line then shape it from there.

With regards to the gouge...I'm not really sure on that one, it's not a horiztonal cut so it won't break but I really would be careful.

You are right it is in the fade, I filled it with glue last night. I will put pics up seen as I can.

another idea I had was that I could extend the handle fades by a half inch, to 2.5"  to compensate for it? It would make the working limbs 11.5".

or extend the handle an inch on each side making it 6" and moving the fades out an inch, making the working limbs 11".

Kinda bummed about it since I already used my walnut, or I could make it to 20#-30# for my wife, get a new piece of wood and start over...
