Laminate TD Recurve limb cracking sounds???
« on: November 12, 2011, 08:53:00 PM »
I built my first TD Recurve. Finished it 11-01-2011. I have noticed that most of the time when I unstring it, and sometimetimes when I string it it makes popping/cracking sounds. Normally once strung it doesen't pop/crack. Is this normal?

There is no apparent cracks or signs of delamination.
Step lightly, and shoot a trad bow.

SO I have that problem too, but I've identified it as the finish sticking at the point where the limbs are attached to one another. If that's what your problem is, I would not worry about it. See if you can identify if that's the case.

What John said!

I had to wax mine on one bow and put felt under limbs on the other!

Rushed the finish curing time, makes a bad sounding crack!
Stay sharp, Kenny.

A piece of that clear shelf liner works pretty well also.  Once cut to size you really can't see it between the limb and the riser.  No more squeaks or cracks from the finish.

I put mole skin on mine.

Yup... felt.  Craft felt from the craft store.  Goes on all my bows now for that reason.
God gave you hands, use them

Thanks guys. I was going over it with a fine tooth comb constantly and never could find anything wrong. I will try one of the above this evening to see. Thanks again.

Moving parts need lube or some sort of insalator between them. String wax works for me and does not draw moisture.
