Hello everyone new guy here on tradgang. I wanted to share my first longbow that I built, bamboo backed hickory reflex deflex 68" #55 at 28". I got the kit for my first bow build since Im new to bow building went pretty smooth for my first. I think it turned out really nice and it shoots awesome really zips a cedar arrow at 20 yards. Now I cant wait to take it out for some late season deer hunting. Thanks for looking good day all.

I thought there was a law or something that said you had to blow up your first few bows before you could have a shooter?LOL
Congrats and like coaster said welcome aboard the crazy train. (at least thats what my wife thinks)

Nice job for your first bow. But notice how flat your limbs are from mid limb on out? They should have a little more bend in them there. Hope you don't mind my advice.

Roy I dont mind at all, any advice would be great. If i did tiller it a bit more to get those flat parts bending would I lose much draw weight from that? And do you think it would improve the bows performance? I know I'll lose a little but I dont want it to be too light I would like to keep it around #50 its about #55 now. Any other advice would be helpful thanks.

If 60% of your limb is dead weight then finishing the tiller off and losing weight would make 90% of your limb work and a better performing bow. Im not telling you do that, just answering your question.

My first BB R/D was firewood, and I even had ol' Roybert helping me along. R/D tillers are different, not harder, just different.

What you would loose in the tillering on weight, you could always shorten it an inch on both limbs and get the weight back?

Ok I tillered it a good bit more, its got a little more bend in the flat spots but there still there. I think Im gonna leave it alone, Im afraid if I start hacking at it It will become fire wood. Im sure it could be better but for my first bow Im pretty happy with it. I cant wait to build another one, this was very accomplishing experience it wont be long, I had a blast building it and learned a lot so far just from this first post thanks again for the help.
