max draw length 65in longbow

I received a wealth of great info to a previous question about letting yahoos shoot my self bow. Now I fear I might be one of the yahoos. I drew a 29in arrow on one of my recuves the tip stopped 3/4 form back of bow does this make my fraw 30+in. Can my 65 in red elm sinew backed bow handle this? limbs start 2in wide and taper to 7/8at knock point. 5/8thick to 7/16 at knock.

Thats one seriously overbuilt mean sumgun, VERY durable. You know what they say about opinions, heres mine. My bet is you could pull that bow to the moon and back without it knowing.

A good rule of thumb is that a sinew backed bow can be drawn half it's length safely. So looks like you're good to go there. But your bow is a bit long for sinewing anyhow........Art

a friend aquired this in a trade(have know way to find the bowyer), I got it bieng the only one he knew willing to pull 70lbs. Have really taken to the spirit in the wood aspect, would hate to tear it up by overdrawing it.Any educated guess's are appreciated and thanks for the ones already given.

Just shoot the hell out of it. You wont hurt that bow one bit. They arent as fragile as people like to think. I wouldnt hunt with them if they were.

If you drew a 29" arrow and had 3/4" sticking out yet then your draw length is 28" give or take a 1/4"

 That bow could easily be drawn to 29". What Bona was saying is that a 65" bow tillered to say 25" should not just be picked up and drawn to 28 on the first pull. It will cause set. If your pulling that bow to where you have it drawn in the pic and that is a 29" arrow then you are in good shape. Like Pearl said, shoot the fire out that thing. If it ever gives up the ghost and I doubt it will if cared for properly it should last your lifetime and then some.

 You keep hanging around here and you'll be building bows before long any ways    :D

Thanks for the advice fellows, I will shoot the tar out of it. The arrow in pic is full length, the 29" arrow had 3/4" to be flush with backwas a finger poker.(halfway across shelf of a different bow) I am a little overbowed at 70lbs so i shoot this one til i break form, then back to 45lb tigercat for rest of day.
