building a new take down recurve, need some advice - New riser pics... please look

Okay everyone.. here is what.  Do you think this will hold 65# at 30" now???

The sight window area is just shy of 3/4" thick.. I like to keep it at 3/4", but with the additional glass I ended up needing to remove a bit more.. but with the extra glass in the window area, I think I will be fine????

Another question for you guys...

Looking on line at other bows.. take Bob Lee's for example.. looks like he has a little bit of a run thru the riser, but not all the way... is there something you can do to the wood if you wanted to make a 'one piece' riser?

I would feel a whole lot better with a couple of pieces glass  running the length of the back of the riser.  The way you are considering might just be fine, I would rather be safe than sorry, that is going to be a great looking riser.

It looks to me like you riser will handle that poundage.I think a solid hard maple riser would hold. Just dont go to thin its not metal its wood. We use to build 65# bows all the time back in the 80s 90s.

If you measure around the grip in the deepest part and keep that 4 1/2 to 5 in. around you should have plenty. It will be hard the get glass to lay good on the curves that you have on the front of your riser. If on your next one just make that area more sweeping curved it would be easier. Be sure to get a good radius where the shelf and sight window joines.

Well.. I decided to make a different riser for this bow.  I will use the riser in this post to make a 50 lb bow with..

I measured around the grip (neck) and it is 5", also measured around the narrowest part of the window and it measured 5"..

So for a 50lb.. I feel good.  For the 65lb.. I redesigned and chose different wood. Will post a build along soon.
