SMOOTH ON SHELF LIFE
« on: February 23, 2012, 01:05:00 PM »
Ive not made a glass bow in quite a while but im fixin to. I have some smooth on epoxy on hand thats a few years old. Its been in an unheated outbuilding so its been hot and cold thru the seasons. Do you think its still good? Is there a way to tell? Thanks in advance for any advice.

why risk it? smooth on is not to expensive compared to the glass, riser block and tapers. I keep mine inside the house and have used some that was opened 4 months earlier. it looked good and still mixed well. I opened a can that was at least year old, it only had about 5 oz in it, one of the cans had a strong "ammonia" like smell to it and had a skin on top, I tossed it.

I found and unopened can on a shelf in my unheated shop that was 3 years old. Might have been a little darker but it hardened just fine. You could mix a little up and see what it does.
