My New Dalaa is humbling me...
« on: February 06, 2007, 08:21:00 PM »
It arrived today, I just strung it, checked brace, tied a little nock set & shot. The humbling part: missing your "spot". It shoots where you aim, repeatedly, and if you miss the spot it's because you weren't aiming at it. Yep, I did say "wow" after the first couple of shots.

It's all the stuff you hear: very dead-in-hand, quiet, quick, and darned accurate. I'm surprised at how forgiving it is & how much that aids accuracy. A:B'd vs. my older Kodiak TD, the Dalaa just whizzes the arrows one after another. The Kodiak--my dearly beloved Kodiak--is wonderful but she's a more tempermental girl, slapping me upside the head for any miscreant release or whatever.

My Dalaa is 48#@27", likely a pound or two heavier than my Kodiak at that draw. Shooting 2016 28" w. 125 gr heads. Should be a bit stiff, can't see it yet but haven't done any tuning whatsoever.

Well, I'm impressed & will give her a good whirl. The Dalaa ain't for everybody, but man does it shoot.

Good luck with it.  When I first shot my DAS my thoughts were the same as yours.  I have shot and owned way more bows than I can honestly remember and I judged them all for what they are or were, nothing more or less, tools and machines and my DAS is honestly superior to any of them.

I have two sets of limbs the Pro Carbons which are 50@26 and XQ-1 limbs that are 40@26.  The XQ-1 limbs bare shaft perfectly at 28.5" nock to BOP 2016 shafts with 100 grain heads, so your 2016 may not be to stiff.  The DAS is not your typical recurve.  And my draw is 26 inches.

yep, made me re-think my preconceived notions of metal risers! the first time i saw a DAS i thought, why would someone want to shoot one of those? after i shot one, i realized that my being closed minded of what was "traditional" was keeping me from shooting one the most enjoyable hunting recurves i had ever shot.

Stu:

I, too, received my Dalaa today.  (3 Rivers is amazing.  I ordered it at 2:00 pm their time last Friday and they shipped it out before day's end.)

Went through the half-hour process to get it set-up and then shot several dozen arrows in the basement.  (It's COLD here in Wisconsin.)

Immediately, I was as comfortable as I am with my beloved Wes Wallace Mentor; felt like I'd been shooting it for a long time.  And, I shot it as well as I shoot the Wallace . . . maybe even a tad better.

The Wallace is a really pretty bow, and I feel I'm being disloyal to it, as I shoot the Dalaa.
But, I have no doubt that my results at the shoots will be somewhat better with the DAS.  How much better only time will tell.

Yeah, 3R was simply great to work with. Good bunch there. I had to wait awhile, but I'm a LH and ordered just after the first shipment was already called for.

I already own metal risers, so the Dalaa's not shocking to me at all. I like the looks. I'm a "shooter" vs. "collector" when it comes to anything I do, to each their own.

Thanks for the info on the lighter limbs & shafts. I may well get a lighter set as mine are set at about the lower limit for "E". This thing shoots, I don't think I need even the 48#. But no hurry...

I'm shooting in the basement also, 10 yds. and sitting in a chair. Very cold here, lookin' for a warmup.
