t/d bushing installation
« on: March 28, 2012, 09:23:00 AM »
Building my first t/d longbow riser and I'm thinking through the bushing installation for the limb bolts. Is there a good how-to resource on this somewhere? I have the binghams riser blueprints on the way, but I'd like to see how you guys do it.

The directions that come with elmonts inserts are very detailed and clear.  You shouldn't have any problems.  The only extra thing I do after the epoxy dries is re-tap the bushing insert just to make sure it's clean and free of any burrs or epoxy.   Limb bolts go in easy every time.  Hope this helps you.

I take the bushing and fill the bottom half of the threads that come in contact with the wood with epoxy.  I take a short bolt with a stop nut on it and thread it into the bushing, up to the stop nut.  I make sure I start the bushing square with the riser and screw it in.  When I get it to the proper depth I back out my bolt and let the epoxy do it's thing.  If there is a little squeeze out I just wipe it off and then back out the bolt so nothing gets into the threads.

We are having an extremely hard time getting our t/d bushing to work from bingham. It doesn't seem like it works very well and I don't understand using the jig to square our hole and then the bushing won't self tap. Any advise would be great...pretty frusterated at this point.

The threaded inserts you get from binghams are not self tapping.
You need to cut threads in your riser first with a 1/2" tap then thread the insert into the riser.
