T-Bird over Shellac/CA glue ????

I have switched to a quality finish and was wondering if any one has seen any reactions with T-Bird finish over CA glue or shellac.  I like to use the shellac or CA glue to fill pores and the edges of the limbs  and tips and overlays because I generally use oily woods.  Has anyone had any problems with this?  Or do I just shoot it with a couple coats of T-Bird to fill pores and then steel wool in between coats.

That should do well using the shellac.  I gave up on CA bc I worked myself to death trying to get it even.  Kirk turned me on to shellac.

I tell you what I do now on the tips is take some extra bow snot and apply it with a tiny bit of thinner in it on the tip overlays.  Made a very glossy finish, but a little finish sanding and pass over with your regular finish should make those ultra durable.  I am rough on tips, and that has seemed to be the most durable system for me.

I have changed from poly. to Tbird also. I was also concerned abot compatibility. I spoke with the lady at Tbird and she said that Tbird will stick to anything. She did say to get as much of the old stuff off that you can.

I use shellac for a while now its fast and works great.   Thanks for the input on the t bird.

Why dont you use t-bird as a sealer also? I use my finger and rub the t-bird in. Let dry sand lightly repeat until pores are filled. Usually takes two to three coats. Then spray with t-bird. Just wondering why the shellac?

I use heavy coats of Thunderbird, sprayed or brushed on, to fill and sand with 240 grit(even 150 grit in some cases) until pores are filled. Then 400 grit, steel wool, and finish coat. I rarely use steel wool during the filling and leveling because it's not agressive enough, and too soft to level properly.

There's no need to 'seal' oily woods before applying Thunderbird. It works fine on its own.
