Question about Blackhawk Yellowjacket
« on: March 31, 2012, 02:49:00 PM »
Hi everyone. I am not a bowhunter so I hope you don't mind me posting here, but I have a question that I'm sure you can answer. My father has had a bow (Blackhawk Yellowjacket) for many, many years. I just today found out what kind it is because I have been lurking on this forum and found a number of you discussing this type of bow. I also discovered that the numbers on the bow mean that my father's bow was made in January of 1957. However, I don't know what the other numbers mean, so I hope you can tell me.

Beneath the "157" there is Y325. Below that is 47#. The last number is @28. What do they mean?

Also, how would I clean this bow? I think it is made of fiberglass? And what kind of bow is it? A longbow? It stands about 5'5" and it is strung at the very ends (I think the original string is on there, because my dad hasn't used it since the late 50s, early 60s!) He is 91.

There are arrows, but I'm not sure how old they are. They are stored in the original leather "case," and there is a glove, as well, but our garage looks like it was furnished by Fred Sanford, so I'll have to do quite a bit of digging to find it.

Thanks for any information you can give me!

I'm not familiar with that kind of bow, but I can tell you that the 47# @28 means that the draw weight is 47 pounds when drawn to 28 inches.  To clean the bow up you could probably just use some water and dish detergent.

Hopefully someone else will chime in on this one.  If you can post some pics of the bow, that would be helpful in answering some of your questions.

Cravotta Bros bow, here's one that sold recently, a Blackhawk hornet, very nice. They made some nice bows & some very basic ones. Post some pics.

Be very careful when cleaning the bow not to remove the writing. I was cleaning dust off some bows recently, and was stupid and used some cleaner that I did not know had ammonia in it and almost wiped off the writing from one of my older collectibles. Think of the writing as the bow's credentials.

if you dont have an photobucket account, try image linky.- its super easy,
1.just resize your pics in paint, max 640 wide. save the resized pic to a file,
2.go to imagelinky.com  press the browse button, find your pic, open your pic in your home file, then press the upload button when it shows you the screen.
3.then simply copy and paste the "forum link" to your post here on the gang!!

Thanks for all the suggestions, everyone. I hope you can see the photos okay. You can see there's some wear and tear, but I wanted to take it down and look at it, maybe clean it up a bit for my dad. He's in no shape to use it at his age, but who knows - maybe I'll be using it in the future.  :)
