150 vs 250
« on: February 24, 2008, 10:01:00 AM »
Ok here is what i did.I have a RER take down. Thats 50@28 and 60". I draw 27 3/4".Now two things i wanted to have when i got done was a heavy shaft(barking at 600gr) and shoot 150gr WW and 165gr land sharks. I took 150 heritage shafts full length.
An ended up with a 28 3/4 arrow with 100gr brass  insert an 145gr tip.I shot this arrow throw the crono. It shot 158fps @580gr arrow with 32.16 KE.

I thought the arrow was a little short. So i tried a 250. I went through the same steps an ended up with a 31 1/4" arrow what weights 600grs (standered insert goldtip 50gr weight 145gr head) An heres the kicker Its 5 fps faster an has 35.41 of KE.

Same bow same crono. I stood in the same place shot the 150 then shot the 250 back to back. Is it because the 250 is not flexing as much an in turn getting  more of the bows energy.

It could be it is better matched but most likely since the arrow is longer you might just be pulling the bow back a bit farther. My draw length increased about .5" when I started leaving my arrows a little longer.Just something about seeing too much hanging out front that made me want to get it back.  ;)
....Quality deer management means shooting them before they get tough....

Could be little of this and little of that which added up to 5fps faster. Like James said it is a better match for the bow. Did they both bareshaft tune good?
Isaiah 49:2...he made me a polished arrow and concealed me in his quiver.

Yes they bareshafted real good.An the first thing that came to mind was im drawing the bow farther. So i marked the arrows an drew to the same place.
Will i broke out the palmer double carbon. Its 50@29 and 60". It shot the 150 160,160,162 fps and shot the 250 158,159,158fps almost the same. And the palmer shoots the 150s great looks like there on a rope. May have found a new arrow for it.(It didnt shoot the 250s very good)Thanks for the come back guys I thought this would be interesting to kick around the fire.
Take care all
