I got this bow today.....
« on: April 05, 2012, 08:48:00 PM »
from a guy at work. He brought it to me so I can (hopefully) get some info on it and to see if it can be repaired. It's a recurve, just over 58" ntn unstrung. The limbs are 1 3/8" wide from the fades to 5" from the tips, then tapering down. The lower tip is 7/16" wide and the upper is 9/16".   :dunno:   The riser looks like maple with a red hardwood (mahogany?, jatoba?) accent. The limbs have been painted black, but have the look and feel of glass. It has the numbers 40 and 60 stamped (!!!) into the riser and a logo that says Archery Craft Toronto. It also has a cast metal sight screwed onto the riser. I strung it up and it's just under 60" long, and it feels like a 40# draw. The upper limb is badly twisted when it's braced.
Has anyone ever seen a bow like this? can the twist be repaired? What would it be worth? (The owner asked because he might want to sell it)
Thanks for any info you can give.

Post this on the "Trad History and Collecting" thread. I'm sure someone there will tell you everything about this bow.

Thanks Pat, I copied and moved it. The main reason I posted here was to see if it would be possible to fix the limb twist.

Sometimes it is possible and sometimes not. I've never tried it but I've heard about holding the twisted limb under a hot shower for a few minutes then torque the twist the opposite way a little past straight and hold it until it cools some.

Thanks. I'll talk to the bows' owner and see if he wants me to try . It would be nice to see this little bow shoot.

I just fixed one twisted pretty bad with a heat gun on low. I went slow and accomplished the fix in a few sessions. Err on the side of not giving enough heat until you find just the right amount.

This bow looks ok when it's not braced. If I heat it using hot water or a heat gun and twist the opposite way to remove the twist, will it still look the same un braced?
