Lefty Bowyers?
« on: May 08, 2012, 09:39:00 AM »
Met a lot of bowyers over the years but no lefties besides myself. Any others?

Yup

I write with my left but shoot right handed.

Pretty sure that Jim Gainey at Black Creek Bows is a lefty also.

A lefty here, except I shoot bows both right and left handed.
The broadhead used, regardless of how sharp, is nowhere as important as being able to place it in the correct spot.

I've heard that Grandpa. Although sometimes  wonder if I was in my "right" mind when I took up making bendy sticks    Spent last night and this morning making up a hickory backed tri lam for no reason other than I found a piece of backing in the archives.I've got more bows than I will ever shoot and no orders for a HBO.

Any of you lefty bowyers interested in swapping bows? No money involved just bow for bow. I've got 3 pc recurve,3pc longbow, short r/d glass and BBI,BBO,

I don't know that I'd be called a bowyer, but I am a lefty. Most of the bows I've made have been for righthanded archers.
That may be why I like to make bows without cutting in arrow shelves. They can be shot from either side.  :bigsmyl:

I use both hands equally while working on bows, although Im a 100% born righty. I have played drums for a long while so all four of my limbs can do what I ask of them simultaneously. I had to force myself to use my left hand more with building, now its just part of the game. Like Walt I can shoot leftie, but not as comfy as righty because of eye dominance.

You're correct KellyG,, I shoot left but I am right handed. Like Walt I can shoot either way. Hitting what I shoot at left or right handed is another story!

I'm a righty and handle most all bow making tools right handed (e.g. rasps).  I walk to the other side of my workbench when working on the "other" side of a bow if you know what I mean.

I made my brother-in-law, who is left handed, a longbow a couple years ago.  Talk about a mind warp when cutting that shelf in    :scared: .
I couldn't tell if the bow was backwards, upside down, or what while building it, but it did turn out OK and he could shoot it.
