String nocks on the pyramid bows
« on: May 25, 2012, 03:25:00 PM »
Well I have 3 bows ready to put strings on.  All three are going to Tanzania with me in 4 weeks.  2 are kids bows, 48" long with the tips being 3/8' wide.  What do you recommend for the nocks and how many stand string should it have? D-50 material is what I have.
Thanks
Bill

On the kids bows I don't usually put any tip overlays. I just cut the string nock grooves in from the side and don't cut into the back of the tips.
On b-50 about 12 strands should work well. Still may have to pad the serving area to make the arrow nocks fit properly.

Generally speaking selfbows don't need tip overlays. Usually it is just cosmetic...even with FF strings. With B-50 it definately isn't. I use 14 strands of B-50 for any bows over 45# and 12 strands below that.
You can use pin nocks, side nocks single side nocks, it really is up to what you want. All work well.
