Yew Stave question
« on: June 18, 2012, 01:09:00 AM »
I was given 2 great 9 year old Yew Staves today and was curious what can be done with a heartwood slit from the stave?

I'd shape/level the back how I wanted then back it with rawhide or sinew.

How straight is it? If it was really straight, I might even flatten it and back it with bamboo. Bamboo and Yew go together better than peanut butter and jelly  :)

Bamboo or Hickory backing. Try to taper your yew "slat" to maybe .004/inch. A fine edge on the bamboo or a 3/16" thick hickory backing. Glue in about 1.5-2" of gentle reflex and then tiller it out. That will be one very sweet shooter.

Pete,
There is absolutly nothing that can be done with that, send it down to beautifull downtown PincherCreek and I will look after it for you!!
Kidding, glue some Bamboo on it and make a bow!!
See you in August.
Bert.
