pics of arras w/stripped feathers

Here's some arras I just finished. Thanks to all who discussed stripped feathers in my other thread. The first one is one of three that I wrapped with outdoor uv resistant polyester thread. Some one please tell if this thread too big...it seemsa to be to me but it was all that walmart had that I thought would hold up. It's finished with a light coat of superglue and then several coats of poly. Shafts are barrel tapered basswood. Feathers on the first two were burned with a burner.
 

This next one is one of 9. I tried my hand at dyeing the feathers with rit dye. Turned out ok I think. Yellow was the only brightish color they had in stock. I am thinking about wrapping these too. I'll leave that up you guys, give me you thoughts.
 

This last one is from some I done for a fellow in AZ. Feathers were ground and chopped by Magnus, who done a good job. Just thought I would throw this one in because they are cool.

First one looks awesome to me, but them again I am a sucker for red.So I think a combination of the 2 would be cool. Nice job!

Maybe the profile and thread wrap of the first but dyed red?
That might be a nice combo.  Great for target, not so good for seeing blood though. Would look great though

Well I guess they are ok.        

John they look great... I love wrapping thread into feathers. The way I do it is, I clamp the arrow into a vice padded with a rag. I snug the vice so it holds the arrow tight, but I can still rotate the shaft with my hand in the vice. I rotate the arrow so a feather is up top and slide the thread down into the splines, if the spacing  doesn't look quite uniform, I simply pull the thread back up out and move it a spline or two in the direction I need. I hold the spool of thread tight in my hand and just keep moving on down the feathers. I always have used thin black silk thread, which I got from Three Rivers. But they quit carrying it. I am positive it could be purchased someplace else.

Roy, That's good advice. You should have seen me holding it under my leg and wrappin' that thread. A third arm would be helpful ( or a vise).
