Anything will work.  Its just how well.  I think you will find that lighter woods seem to produce a sweeter shooting bow.  Less mass to slow things down and create hand shock.

So to answer your question....yes.

Not trying to hijack thread but tenbrook your reply left me with a dilemma. I have always believed that heaver wood was necessary to absorb the excess energy transmitted from the limbs from the string.I can see though that with lighter wood the shock produced might not be as great as denser stuff. Some of my recent bows although lighter bows of 30- 40#  have relatively light timber in their risers and produce no shock at all.I am now undecided which way is correct.Anyone with some additional info?

In a glass bow you want to have light woods in the limbs for better performance and less hand shock. In the riser on the other hand heavy woods will add stability and help absorb hand shock if the tiller is not absolutely perfect.

Thanks Andy i think I misread the initial question which is about limb materials not so much the riser materials.
