Howdy folks,
I need a little input from the folks with some experience with basswood for arrows. I don't see to many people talking about it. I did purchase some blanks a while back and made some really nice arrows out of them. They worked good, fly great, but I broke one on the first trip to the target. May have been due to grain runout but I bounced the arrow off the side of the target and hit the ground at an angle and it broke about 3 inches foward of the fletching. Haven't got to do much testing other than that.
The reason I would like hear from some folks that have shot basswood more extensively is I found a 24 inch diameter, 18 foot long that is clear and in great shape, freshly cut. I can buy it for next to nothing and I know a guy who will cut it up into boards for .25 cents a board foot. I have a good place to stack and sticker it while it seasons. But, I would like some opinions on whether it would be worth the money and effort since I don't have much experience with it and I don't see a lot of people shooting it.
Thanks
JY
