What'st the best way to ship a recurve?
« on: September 03, 2012, 09:48:00 PM »
Since a one-piece recurve won't fit in a mailer tube or a carpet tube, is there any cost-effective packaging? I searched among suppliers of card-board boxes, but didn't see any pricing for flat boxes that would be long enough. It seems that a 60" x 7" x 3" box would work--unless the shipping company decides to use the box for a loading ramp.

4 inch plastic pipe, and insure it, insurance is cheap. Buy the thin walled light weight pipe. Buy two end caps for it and run 3 wood screws into it to hold it on. Then cover the screws with tape so no one gets a cut handling it.

I use two arrow boxes taped together at an end, then taped to beat the band, padded to.

Last bow I sent in a card board box arrived with the top limb broken backwards. Cuban just got his swap bow last week in a card board tube, the tip was broken off one end. Plastic pipe is the safest bet.

1x4 pine boards and 1/4" Luan plywood. Make a wood box screwed with sheet rock screws. Pack bow in crumpled paper or styro peanuts.

Strung with a real low brace heaight and it should fit in a 5" tube.  That's how I have shipped bows for hunts out west.
