Total Lam Stack Question
« on: September 27, 2012, 07:08:00 PM »
If you have two stacks that are both equal  in thickness, but one has .04 glass and one has .05 glass. Remembering they are equal thickness, will the .05 stack be heavier? In my mind regardless .05 or .04 if they are equal thickness you will end with the same weight. Appreciate any input..

Theoretically(sp)     the .050 stack should be stiffer bow due to the glass being stiffer per thickness than the wood.  :)
Stay sharp, Kenny.

Have to agree with Kenny. Its very hard to compare stacks re different bow types but with HH style flat laid its around 1# per 3thou wood and can be a difference of 10# between using .040 glass compared to .050. The glass has a much greater compression and tensile strength than wood so apples being apples it then should be heavier with the thicker glass, but hey I'l probably be proved wrong!

Yep it is gonna be heavier. If you use two .05 in place of .04 10 lbs. may be close. Even stiffer core woods will make the same stack more. But not as much as glass.

Thats what I needed to know. I put together a new Hybrid D/R LB form. Have not worked with anything but mild designs with.05 glass. Ready to try somthing new. Thanks again!
