Brace height
« on: October 14, 2012, 12:34:00 AM »
Not sure if this is the place to post this question or not but figured the folks that are making the bows would  know better than most.  Long time coumpound shooter and just purchaced a robertsonstck bow.  Specs say brace height should be 71/4 to 75/8.  How does brace height height affect arrow flight ?  Thanks!

Kipp,Ive always ben told to set your brace height to the lowest recomended height while still maintainig the best silence and performance that you can achieve.I would start at 7.25.Shoot some arrows.See how it acts.If its louder than you think it should be raise the brace height and continue testing.Dont forget nock height and arrow size will also affect how the bow acts.Hope this helps, scott

It depends on your arrow length, arrow weight, your form, your release, your bow etc. Lots of variables.

Look into OL Adcock tuning, here's a link. Great guide.  http://www.bowmaker.net/index2.htm

Once you get an arrow close to matched you can raise or lower your brace height to fine tune. I like to do this without anything (silencers/catwhiskers/wool/fur strips) on the string so you can easily tell when the string makes less noise when loosing an arrow. There will be a sweet spot and with practice you'll be able to find it pretty quick. Then add silencers to your string if you still have some noise.

As far as arrow flight you'll tune both axis, in simple terms you want your arrow to fly straight even without feathers so yes I recommend bareshaft tuning as an easy way to see results.

Anyways, welcome and good luck!

Thanks!  I think I will try to work on form a little before I do much else.  The link was good!  Kipp
