Murray Gaskins bow videos
« on: October 21, 2012, 07:10:00 PM »
Hello all,

I was wondering if anyone had building the whitewood bow video by Murray Gaskins and if so could I rent or buy them from you if you had them.  I tried e-mailing Murray, but he did not get back to me.  I have only done a bow blank before and want to build a bow from stave to finish. I thought a white wood like hickory might be easiest because the back is already prepared for you when you peel off the bark.

Thanks,

Nesbo

Murray has been out of selling bow building supplies for at least 6 years. Get Gary Davis' video.

There a re buidalongs on my site. The Bent Stick by Comstock is a good starting book for whitewoods. I agree with you regarding hickory. Jawge

went to check mine out and ensure it was rewound before dropping off and the tape came apart inside the player.  4 other tapes were fine but this one disintegrated.  going to try and get hold of Murray or someone near him and see if he has any masters laying around...and if can talk him into making some DVDs or let me do it for him.

That would be great.  I e-mailed him last week.  He said they were all on VHS and I said that was fine, but I sent him a reply, asking how he wanted to be paid and he has not responded.  I tried again and with no luck.

Be careful making copies.  No matter how innocent the intent, or how well you know a person, they are intellectual property and as such can start a whole pile of problems by copying and sending off to someone.

if I bought the video and make a copy and give it away free I am not violating anything...only if I sell it.  Plus, I was going to ask Murray to do it for me or ask for permission to do it myself...

sometimes you got to read for comprehension on here... :)   :)

I've talked to murray several times, great guy.  He's got a lot going right now, and probly gets inundated with emails from all sources.  he's still in the biz, just not a sponsor here anymore.  He has barns full of wood and such, but it's not his primary gig, more hobby selling now.  Give him a second email, or better yet, give him a call.   :)

might have to give him a call and drive down with a trailer if he has some wood he needs to get rid of and talk with him a little...  is the number for his day job the good one to call?

yeah, i think so.  He seems to be in and out of meetings a lot, but he'll answer if he's not tied up usually.
