I have been having a problem with my arrows bouncing off the target.  I shoot #55 at 28" 2016 with 90 grains up front.  The arrow flight is good and it is something I have just begun to expeirence and I was looking for advice.  Do I need more weight up forward or is the 2016 to stiff?

What type of target are you shooting? Have you bare shaft tested to see if you are getting good arrow flight?

what kind of target are you shooting at??

sounds like to light of an arrow to be shooting true also   do  you draw 28"?  what is your draw length and how long are your arrows?

what type of bow are you shooting?

That information would probably help.  My draw is 26", arrows are 27" the bow is a Bear Super Mag 48.  The target I have been having trouble with is webbed, a piece of cardboard is used to back the paper. I was going to try a 125 grain point but I wanted to pick your brains to see if that was a good place to start.

I have that happen sometimes.  I shoot 650 grains, 55# at 30 inches.  Dont worry.  Targets are made to stop arrows and field points are not made to penetrate like broadheads.

Know what you mean though the first time it happened I really freaked out.

Caleb
Oh squeaky treestand, how I hate thee!

Longbowz

I would still bare shaft and paper tune your arrows.  If your arrows are hitting a little sideways thay will bounce off.
I find the older I get, the less I used to know!

I would guess with your setup, your arrows are too stiff.  The best way to know if you're shooting the right arrow for your bow, as was mentioned, is to do bare shaft tuning.  However, just to see what difference there might be, try shooting your same setup with 125 grain points, and even 145 grain points, if you can get them.  Compare arrow flight with each point, and see which one has the least amount of wobble.  I don't know what your brace height is, but if you haven't done any bare shaft tuning, you should set it pretty high; maybe 5/8".

Three Arrows

Those bag targets get shots in one area too much and causes arrows to bounce straight back out.  This happens sometimes.

Bear Heart

I have had this trouble in the past when I used bullet points instead of field points.

Thanks for the info. I just bare shafted with the 125 grain points and had very little to no wobble. I plan on going to the range and try the new set up a 20yds.

Steve P

Like Bear Heart, I've had it happen with my bullet points when they get worn and dull. I wouldn't say they bounce back, more like not penetrate much and just fall to the ground.

Bowtie

I had problems shooting bullet points with my self bow (49 lbs., 1916 alum. Legacy, 28.5", 125 gr. points). Switched to combo points, no problems after that.

The work praises the man.

Just a thought.  How are you going to get a good broadhead to fly at 90 grs?  Maybe now's the time to start shooting 125 or 150 (125 cut on contact bh plus 25 gr adaptor) grs.

Bowmania
I'm not putting up with this guys shit and dogging me.

LV2HUNT

On bag targets it is fairly common.
