Limb Bolt Tightness?

I just got my new (to me) Blacktail Snakebit this morning and when I put the limbs on the riser and tighten down the limb bolts, I can still see a tiny little gap at the bottom edges when strung? Is that a problem? Is that normal? My other bows don't seem to be like that. I don't want to damage the bow and I don't want to tighten down the limb bolts (they are already tight) and crack the finish. I am such a weenie with this bow because it is so beautiful (will post pics via man-law tonight) and I don't want to damage it.

What do you guys think?

Is it just at the edge or can you see all the way through to the other side? I just crank mine down until they won't turn anymore. If they are "already tight" then they should be good to good....unless the bolt length is too long which doesn't allow them to pull the limbs down tight against the riser! If this is the case you need to have some length cut off those bolts. Do you know if these are the original bolts that Norm sent out with the bow?

Yeah, they are the originals and yes, I can very slightly see all the way through but just on the very bottom edge, maybe about a quarter of an inch up the limb/riser face.

A snug fit is all you want just good and hand tight.

Check and make sure your limbs are seated good and aligned on the guide pins and there is nothing under there that shouldnt be.

There are a lot of Blacktail owners here they will chime in, and congrats on a beautiful bow.

The snake bit is in the top of my bows to own list one day, thats for sure

It was all about timing for me. I've wanted one for a while. I just got my bonus from work and wouldn't you know it, the next day DENDEN offered his at a perfect weight in the Forum. I about poo'd my pants. I couldn't type the reply fast enough.

I'm gonna have to work on it tonight and make sure it is good to go. Like I said, I'd hate to damage such a beautiful bow.

You shouldn't see daylight between the riser and limbs. Something isn't right. They should seat flush. Take a look in the holes to make sure there isn't an obstruction. Mine are tight going on. You have to put the limb on evenly between the two posts.

I'm not sure you can say that. My widow has a space and is supposed to be there. I would call the bowyer directly and see what he has to say.

Good advice Lechwe. All I know of the 3 Blacktails I have owned they all seated flush against the riser.

Sounds to me like the limbs fit fine except for a 1/4 inch area right at the bottom of the limb--otherwise the limbs are flush with the riser, right?  That is probably nothing more than a little spot where the limb was not sanded perfectly flat when finished.  I've had that on a couple of TDs and it was nothing.  Mike Fedora once showed me how tight to tighten limb bolts--he used one finger to just snug the bolt...Dave

On my Widow's there is a small o-ring on each alignment pin.  These keep moisture out of the alignment holes and do create a small gap that can be seen through.  When tightening my limbs I put the long end of the allen wrench in the bolt and short end between my thumb and forefinger.  There is less leverage this way and I just tighten like that.  Tight enough, but not so much that I do any damage to the bow...Mike

Thanks guys... I think I have it good to go now. Just got back from Vegas and I've been playing around with it. I had to go and buy some really thin black felt because where there were pads before... they aren't now. So, I cut them down to size and fit them and the bow is rockin now. I love this thing!!!

Thanks for the advice and reassuring me that I wasn't going to snap the bow in three!
