Wireless remotes for outlets.
« on: December 14, 2012, 12:00:00 PM »
I found a cheap wireless remote for my workshop tools. At walmart in the chistmass light section. They have a 3pk wireless remote for 14.95. With this unit you can run 3 separate outlets with tools plugged in. I bought it for my dust collector that is in a closet and it works great.
I also plan on buying or build a air filter system for the shop so I will be able to plug that in also... Check it out, its better than $50 or more for a single plug. They use them at our church for stage lights.

Thanks for the heads up. That's a great idea. Sure beats running back and forth to turn on the dust collector.

My wife has the same thing to use on her christmas lights. Are you sure they are rated for enough current to run tools and dust collectors? Don

Well that's a good question, the remote plug is rated for 13 amps and my collector is 15 amps, but I think it is 15 amps start up then drops but I'm not sure. I'm looking into it.

The intended use would be the equipment you dont stand at to run, like a dust collector or air filter, tools like saws and sanders you are right there anyway to turn the switch on within arms reach.

You can also buy foot switches, which are very handy on saws when your hands are busy keeping the work steady. You plug the tool in to the switch and the switch in to the receptacle.

Or buy 120v - 240v  relays and control those with the remote switch.  :) . Of course, the size of your good deal gets smaller and smaller.
