writing on bows

I have a quill pen to mark on my bow, but what type ink do I look for?  Acrylics seem too thick.

I have good luck with acrylic ink, do have to thin it sometimes.  Works better than anything else I have tried.

India ink is what I use now. It is very permanent. I think it comes in many colors too and not just black. It cleans up with water but once dry it is permanent.

I use the acrylic. I put a dab of paint on something plastic. Then thin it with a tiny bit of water.
I use a calligraphy pen.

Some time back you posted a picture showing the black ink you were using. On the bottom of the bottle it had the word acrylic I think.
My question is : is there a India ink that is acrylic based?

I use Testors paint with a quill and it works perfect-o.

Ron, neither of the 2 bottles I have say acrylic. One says India ink and the other says calligraphy ink. I don't know if there is an acrylic India ink. It is water based I believe.

Had good luck with india ink.  Have an ultrafine sharpie that i'm going to try soon though.  The tip seems to glide over the wood a little better than my india ink pen.

My wife came up with a great idea the other day. I was racking my brain figuring out what to use for two Christmas bows and she nailed it. She had a nail art pen in white she got at CVS pharmacy. It's paint (not sure what kind) and the point is as fine as a sharpie. It worked like a charm I sprayed over it with Spar Urethane and it's had no effect on the marking. I bought a silver one for about $9.

I believe the nail art pens are acrylic. My daughter uses them. I know you can get black, white, silver, and pink, because she has them. They are around 7-8 bucks each. They're available everywhere nail stuff is.

I use fine point paint pens from hobby lobby and it takes acetone and alot of scubbing to get it off. drys quick

I use the hobby lobby fine point pens too.  Seem to work great.

I nused to use Sharpies but the ink eventually fades to nothing.

Good to know Pat, i'll scrap that idea.  Forgot that i have used the paint pens, but all i could find at the time was not a small enough point and was ugly imo.  Stayed on fine tho:)

The paint pens that I've used all smeared when the first coat of Tru-oil was applied.  The last few I've done lately I used black leather dye with a quill pen with good success, don't know how long it will last though.

I use the sharpie paint pens now, mainly silver. I'm sure the real hobby type paint pens are better but then I have to actually walk into another store ... and thats not happening most days ...
