Hello, all, I am Matt Mode in western NC; and with the inspiration I have gained from this board, I am in the process of making my first board bow.
I am using a design similar to the one on Sam Harper's site, and have been using hand tools I have to rough out the belly. My question it's this: In the absence of a surform or planer, can the bulk of the wood be removed carefully with a chisel, then finished down with a drawknife and sanding block?
I have tested this method on a scrap piece and think it can be done, but wanted some feedback before I ruin my first attempt.
Thanks, and Merry Christmas to you all!
