Cutting fiberglass and wood

I use a chop saw with a abrasive blade for cutting my limbs after layup but the blade burns the wood real bad and causes a lot of smoke in the shop. I used to use just a hack saw but wanted to use a chop saw instead. Any ideas on a type of wheel to put on the saw that would do a good job.

I've heard of people putting a metel cutting blade on their band saws to cut the limb shape out but seeing as I have only built one glass bow I haven't tried it.

If your talking about cutting off the ends..I used to use my Dremmel tool with a reinforced grinding blade .. Now I just use a belt sander with a 36 grit or 50 grit belt..the 36grit is super fast..For profiling the sides I grind near the line then change to a 120 grit belt to sand "to the line"

If the wood gets burned then the saw is running to fast. The faster your saw is running the more heat is generated and the dents of the blade are kind of melting away. Go slower and the wood won't burn and your blades will last longer.

for cutting the ends on a glass bow I use my radial arm saw with a fine wood cutting blade. I also cut my glass with the same set-up.

JamesV do you have a problem with the glass splintering?

For cutting the limb tips, make sure your limb is against the fence and when cutting just glass I put a piece of wood over the glass and cut thru both at the same time. I use a fine carbide tipped blade and don't have any splintering of the glass.
