Urac type glues

Sort of a survey question.
When using Urac 185 do you use a toothing plane or something to rough up the surfaces?
I've made about 35 or 40 BBI bows and have never roughed up the surfaces.
Not had any problem with the glue. Most of these were light weight kids bows. Only 6 or 7 adult weight.

I always use the toothing plane with urac. Never tried without, but it must work if you did it Ron.

I've only made a handful of bows but was used to making furniture and using Titebond. I was always taught to have smooth mating surfaces and have done that with Urac. Luckily I have had no glue failures with smooth to smooth glue-ups. It must mean it is a pretty good glue.

Like I stated I've used the smooth surfaces with out failure.
I don't want add the extra unless needed.
I have not heard of any documented glue line failures in either case.
Maybe next time I'm glueing blanks I'll do,a test both ways on some scrap and see if I can destroy it.
Ranger for sure on Titebomd smooth surfaces.
Gap filling glue like Urac I'm sure is stronger roughed up but don't think it is necessary.

In my 11 years of glue ups, never had a single failure of a glue joint. URAC was bullet proof and I'd imagine Unibond will be he same.
