I use denatured alcohol to raise the grain and inspect the bow through a lighted magnifying glass that is mounted on my work table.  After i AM SURE i got all the scratches out I come back two days later and check it again with the alcohol.

I don't leave any tool marks on my bows. I start looking for them outside in the evening sun and often go back and remove the ones that escaped me after I put my first coat of Tru-oil a bow.

The first coat of finish really makes the smallest ones show up.

I have very few if any as I tiller my bow with a palm sander and 220 grit paper, so that knocks out the rasp marks.

Hold the bow up to a light and on an angle, you wont miss anything then.
