Fades From Handle 2 Limbs

so i was following 4est trekkers build along ,(awesome build along by the way thanks) and i made a mistake . my question is if this is a fatal mistake or not. lol. where the bow fades from the handle to the limbs i cut to thin i was supposed to keep them at full thickness about an inch and a half or so from the handle and i didnt here are some pics to show what im talking about any suggestions or thoughts would help thanks ..

That's not good. Your dips should come into working limb thickness beyond the flares not inside them. You have a weak spot because you got thin and narrow at the same spot. A lot of bows break there because of that. If it's any consolation, it's not an uncommon mistake for beginners to make.

Thanks thats what i figured. so there is really now hope for it then . prolly just move, learn, and start fresh??

I'd think cutting off the existing riser and sanding it flat will be a better decision now. Then you can glue on a new piece of wood that extends into the limbs for some decent fades, and probably a thicker (or meatier) handle too. That should prevent the riser from being thin and narrow at the same time.

Just make sure it doesn't bend in the thin and narrow area and you will be fine.  You might end up with a much lighter bow than you want but it will be good practice nonetheless.

I would thin the area outside your fades by about 1/16" and then see how it is bending.

Thickness is measured from back to belly.

Width is measured from side to side.

Add a backing, either full length or if a non-bending handle just over the fades.

thanks for the pointers ill prolly try to sand flat and put on a new riser thanks again i will let u know how it turns out
