First Bow!
« on: April 02, 2013, 01:09:00 PM »
Ok it's not my first bow, but it is the first I've posted on this forum.  It's a hickory board bow with walnut overlays and a red oak and walnut riser.  The tips are reflexed using 4est trekker's glue on method from his excellent tutorial in the "how to" section of the forum.  I got the hickory board and the black walnut from Pine Hollow Longbows.  Fast shipping and excellent quality materials. I haven't been able to resize the full draw pic to less than 640 wide but as soon as I get it done I'll post it.

Nice work, I like the handle
Ps 8:3 ¶ When I consider thy heavens, the work of thy fingers, the moon and the stars, which thou hast ordained;
 4 What is man, that thou art mindful of him? and the son of man, that thou visitest him?

Nice!  The walnut makes a great contrast with the hickory.

Love tyhe walnut contrast with the hickory. Tiller looks good as well. I like to see nice finish work on a first bow, shows you care.
My only concern is the size of the site window, looks a little small. How far above the bows center is the shelf, it looks like it is right at the start of the fade. You could probably lower the shelf so that it is only 1 1/4"-1 1/2" above center. Will balance the bow better and provide a larger window. jmho. I hope others chime in with any helpful tips.
Keep the wind in your face and the sun at your back.

Thanks for the compliments.  Razorback- You're right about the window.  It's at 1.75" and is smaller than most.  On subsequent bows I've made them bigger and all between 1.25 and 1.5".  If it didn't shoot so well I'd probably lower it and make it bigger, but my grand daddy told me long ago that if it ain't broke, don't fix it, so I'm gonna leave this one as is.

Nice bow, but I agree with RazorBoy. I would open up that sight window. I can't see how you could shoot well with it like it is. Here is how I would do it. No offense meant, it's your bow.
