Stippled a grip

I've had this bow for awhile and decided to work on the stippled grip since I was spraying another one- now I'm happy.

Nice job. I like the grip you get without covering up the wood like you do when you use a leather wrap.

I've been thinking about trying to stipple one of my grips. Hopefully it turns out that nice.

When you do this or checkering how do you get the pores to fill or do you just spray on the finish and let it fill the pores as good as possible?

I've had good luck just spraying it fill the pores-it doesn't take much.

looks great David.  the first couple I did didnt go as smooth as i wanted them too: But I learned to take my time and not gouge the dremmel tool into the wood.

When I stipple a grip I use the massey finish to seal the stipple. I apply it using a Q-tip. Two coats in about 6 hours then allow to dry overnight. Afterwards, I use a small wire brush to scuff it then spray with Fullerplast.

Thanks! The riser is canary wood- I do have some zebra wood in my stash  though.

I use a dremel with a round tipped bit- outline the area and then fill in with divots. The first time I did the riser all the divots were spaced the same and it just didn't look or feel right- now it really sticks in your hand.

Great job Dave! I have been wanting to try one for awhile now. Is that a recurve or longbow riser?  It sure does look nice.

Jess it's a recurve- I think that's all I've done these on- may have to try a longbow riser sometime.
