Well, it's been awhile since I posted on here. Over the last couple months I have been working on my long recurve design. I built a 50#, 45#, & 40# version using different kinds of wood for the risers and limbs. I have a
blog with more pictures and info on these
three 65" recurves , if you are interested.
From left-to-right:
- 50# bow has a walnut|bloodwood|maple laminated riser and moradillo limbs under clear glass.
Achieved stats: 64", 50# @28", (55# @30"), 205 fps with a 378gr arrow.
- 45# bow has a cherry|walnut|bloodwood laminated riser with actionboo limbs under black and clear glass.
Achieved stats: 65", 45# @28", (50# @30"), 197 fps with a 378gr arrow.
- 40# bow has a walnut|bloodwood laminated riser with jatoba back and honey locust belly lam under clear glass.
Achieved stats: 65", 40# @28", (45# @30"), 187 fps with a 378gr arrow.
I tried to put some different types of curves and lines in the risers, which I had never done before.
I also tried to center-cut a couple of the risers to see if it helps with arrow flight.
The 45# cherry/actionboo bow is by far the smoothest and best shooting bow that I have built/shot. I shot 3D league with it and I have been taking it out to the outdoor courses lately. It's a pleasure to shoot.
