take down limbs....
« on: July 28, 2013, 05:02:00 PM »
so i may be crazy but i was looking through some of the bow building supplies on 3river kustomking ad bingham and started thinking about a crazy idea but i wanted to see if it could be possible. the idea is i was thinking of making a set of limbs for my recurve...i was looking at the limb design and thought it should be do-able...but i was thinking maybe using bamboo or elm with a carbon backing and glass belly. im wanting it to be an upgrade with out buying a totally new bow. its for an old samick sage riser that i have laying around or possibly finding limbs that will fit. what do you all think or am i just beating a dead horse????   :deadhorse:

Not a problem to copy a limb design. just measure the thickness in a couple of places to get you taper. Then trace it onto your form piece. All the bolt holes and such need to be in the same location--wedge needs to be the same length so on and so forth.

The type of carbon you choose will make a huge impact on the final product. Uni doesn't do too well in RCs. A 45-45 degree bi- axial lay up will be stable enough laterally to work but it will be a wild guess at stack thickness. Much easier to do what Crooked Stic suggests and copy the limbs with glass.
