OUCH...
« on: August 02, 2013, 09:24:00 AM »
Back of the bow, mid-limb.

Glued up a yew bow last night, black glass.  Had bad dreams about it delaminating for some reason.  Came down this morning to check before work and found the pressure at zero.  1/4" fill line had burst.  Need to find a better solution.  So I had to grind away at the fades to see if it had set enough prior to losing pressure (I know it was at full pressure for the first 1.5 hours and up to 155 degrees when I went to bed.)  Fades looked great, but as I started to grind more of the glue off I slipped.  Tape took the worst of it, but not enough.  Uhg...  We'll have to see what can be salvaged after cutting out the limb profile and lightly sanding.  Don't like the idea of sanding the back glass much, but it's not too deep so maybe....

I would just clean it up lightly, finish the bow and if you like it, put skins on it...

More worried about having cut 10-20% into the thickness of the glass at a critical area creating a weak spot than looks.  But if it turns out to be a non-issue structurally, skins would be a good idea on it.  A black yew bow with copperhead or rattlesnake skins.  I like that, thanks....
