Pronounced R/D Longbow
« on: August 18, 2013, 01:54:00 AM »
Hello everybody!
I wanna try my first td longbow, and have 2 .100 tapers, a strip of carbon and .030 glass for back/belly. I am trying to get 40-45 lbs, is this possible?
Or should I change one taper to a .080 parallel lam.

Greetings, Peter

Oh,and I forget, I am using the Bingham-form and want a 64" longbow (limbs 1 1/2" and riser 1" shorter).

According to Bingham Projects bow weight chart, for a 64" R/D bow you need a lam stack from .346 to .361 for 40 to 45 lbs respectively, I am not sure how thick the carbon is or how it affects the stack but, this will get you a bit closer down the road, as others jump in and give you the other 98 cents worth. Good luck

If the form follows a Bingham's design, then you should follow their recommended stack thickness to hit your desired draw weight.

Hello everybody!
I forgot to metion, that I have all the pieces at hand on my workbench, I don't wanna put them all together. Maybe I can find a combo that is working.

With the thicker core of a 1 1/2 wide limb would a 040 piece of belly glass be better than the 030?. You said one piece of carbon, would that be for the back just under the 030 glass? I have not used carbon but I bought some 4 years ago. Its still in the packing. For one piece longbows 35-47 lbs @28" I have been using 040-043 glass and have not had any problems with performance, hand shock or limb set. I'm not saying 030 won't work just thinking 040 belly glass without carbon might be a better choice for your target weight.

For a 64" with 16" riser I used a .100 taper (.002) and a .100 reverse taper(.002) and a .050 parallel and .050 glass for a stack of .278.  Came in at 41@28.  Bingham design  All material 1 1/2" X ----
