Does bamboo backing help keep the limbs straight?
« on: October 29, 2013, 04:32:00 PM »
Hey Gang,

Thinking of making another backed osage r/d bow.

Last one was a BBO.
Boo splintered even though I didn't scrape the rind off...just lightly sanded.
So it has me a little apprehensive to use it again.

Been thinking of using a hickory backing this time.

Just got to wondering though, if boo might be a big help in keeping the limbs from twisting/curving do to its linear nature.

You think it makes a bit of difference when compared to hickory in that aspect?

Thanks

stright grained wood and bamboo has fairly low torsional strength. That was sometimes they use bias ply glass in bows. Most carbon is bias to add torsional stiffness.
