Backing for persimmon

I have a 40 inch trunk of persimmon I plan on cutting two 40inch slats for splicing. What is the best/most compatible backing material? Would like to build a static recurve about 68 inches non.

I wouldn't back it or if I did sinew.
I guess that really depends on how you slice it!
