How to repair a limb on selfbow?
« on: November 13, 2013, 10:39:00 AM »
I made a yew wood selfbow that is a great shooter. It was made from marginal wood. Lots of woodpecker darkened areas.  After several hundred shots it has an area that has a very small change near one of the "woody" damaged areas. It looks like a little bit of grain is lifting. This is on the edge/belly past the fades on the limb.
I see some guys have done repairs and strengthening an area by wrapping the area with string  and then saturating it with super glue...?  What type of string? Braided fishing line?
I just want to save this bow if at all possible.
Thanks, David

I'll be the first to say put up a picture.
If it is a small area that is starting to splinter then using super glue, CA, glue and wrapping with any strong thread like serving string, sinew or artificial sinew then saturating that with glue will  help.
Titebond 3 will also work.

Go down to the "diagnose this failure thread", I tell all about thread wrap fixes.
