Osage #2 ?'s
« on: January 01, 2014, 03:52:00 PM »
I jumped back on the bow building horse after licking my wounds from this morning. I have a stave from a different log and the moisture seems way better.

This sucker is a roller coaster like the last one but the rings are not paper thin. It does have knots and plenty of them. Do I have to walk those knots down through the sapwood? I haven't had to deal with this type of knot yet.

Rob, you do have to work the knots on the back down to the back ring you choose. Generally I like to leave those areas until after I get to the back ring. When you get to the knots work from the top of the knot down and all around it. Work slowly and take it easy.  Good luck!

It turns out they aren't really as bad as I thought. When I took the bark off they looked huge. My newest problem is after taking out cracks on the sides and bad spots one limb is pretty narrow. Almost bow dimensions. I will get some pics up soon. I won't have much to work with on that limb.
