Super glue sealing and grain filler ?????
« on: January 05, 2014, 06:31:00 PM »
I've seen where you all use super glue for various things. Some fill grain and others seal arrows such as river cane. Just curious, do you thin it with something or use straight from bottle? How do you apply it? I know I would probably glue it to my hand. Lol!!!!

they make it in different viscosities--I like the thin

sand between coats--I put it on with my index finger-put plenty on-keep it moving--work sections until you get a feel for it--oh and have good ventilation!!sometimes I get fumed--outside or a small fan will help-good luck1

Put a latex glove on.  That stuff's a real pain to get off your skin.

Good ventilation or a respirator is a must.  That stuff makes my sinuses burn and eyes water bad if I don't have a respirator on.

x2 on the latex glove. If you dont wanna bother, I just use a mill file and/or sandpaper to get the glue off my finger.

If you wanna fill grain/seal raw wood I recommend using thin so it penetrates evenly, at least fort th efirst coat. Then if you need to build it up faster you can use the gel type, but I find the gel doesn;t always penetrate evenly  as a base coat and it can show in the finish.

What kind do you guys usually use? Also, how many bottles to seal a normal size bow?

I use satellite city Hot Stuff(thin)2 coats and then sand. Wipe down with denatured alcohol and appy 2 more coats and sand this usually does the trick. I sometimes use the Satellite City Special T(thick)if I have big grained wood and it fills great but always lay down a couple coats of thin.
One two ounce bottle should do at least three risers no problem.

I cut the fingers of latex gloves and roll the glove fingers onto my index finger, one glove lasts a bit longer that way.
